Our Mission and Vision

A vision statement is about, “Where are we going?”

A mission statement answers this question by responding with, “How are we getting there?”

COMMUNITY’s vision and mission statement are inspired by the life of Jesus Christ.

Our Vision:  Becoming Like Jesus Together.

Our Mission:  Growing Together in Relationship with JESUS, in COMMUNITY with others, and in Ministry to the WORLD.

Our Core Values

OUR CORE VALUES help us become the COMMUNITY we believe God is calling us to be. These are the non-negotiable convictions and priorities that guide all our ministries as a church family. They are the principles which keep us moving toward Becoming Like Jesus Together.

CCC Staff

Pastor David McCowan david.m@cccks.org

Lead Pastor

David loves being a pastor at COMMUNITY. He is humbled by the opportunity to help people grow in their relationship with Jesus, so they can make a difference in people’s lives. He is grateful to be part of a gifted staff and leadership team who inspire our church family to live the vision God has given us for ministry in the community, region, and beyond. He is excited about the future of COMMUNITY, and our ministry to others.

David grew up in both Boston, MA, and Maine. After serving in the United States Marine Corps, he and his wife, Venessa, were married, and he was called into pastoral ministry. He joined the staff at COMMUNITY in August 2019.  David and Venessa have two children who are married, and three grandsons.  Along with spending time with family and getting to know other people, he enjoys sports, biking, hunting, jet-skiing, body surfing in the ocean when he can get there, and cooking. Oh, and he loves BBQ, cheesecake, and a good piece of pie!

If you see David at church or around town, please introduce yourself. He’d love to meet you!

Pastor Tom Greenwald tom.g@cccks.org
Associate Pastor of Missional Discipleship

Tom enjoys helping “ordinary” people to engage in the extraordinary Mission of God. For him, there’s nothing better than seeing someone embrace their identity as God’s magnificent creation and give themselves to a life blessing others.

Tom has served in churches in various ministry contexts including urban Chicago, rural New Hampshire, small town West Michigan and now suburban Kansas City.

Tom is joined on this adventure by his wife Amy and their sons Jacob and Ezekiel.

Pastor Jessica Springer jessica.s@cccks.org
Associate Pastor

Jessica has been serving at COMMUNITY since 2013. She attended Nazarene Theological Seminary where she earned two masters:  M. Div. and the M.A.C.E (Masters of Christian Education). She became and ordained elder in the church of the Nazarene in 2010 while serving in North Arkansas.

At COMMUNITY, she serves in a variety of roles but has a strong emphasis in evangelism and discipleship. In her spare time she is a freelance writer and consultant for various Christian publishing companies. Jessica lives in Lenexa with her husband Steve and their  three wonderful children:  Grace, Faith, and Christian.

Next Gen and Children’s Ministry Director Charlotte Joos charlotte.j@cccks.org
Next Gen and Children’s Ministry director

Charlotte is passionate about families knowing Jesus and growing in their relationship with the Lord. She joined the staff in August of 2020. Charlotte has always had a love for working with children and worked as a teacher in the Kansas City MO School District. Her love of children collided with her love of Jesus and she began her ministry journey in 2005. Nothing brings Charlotte more joy than seeing children and their families fall more in love with Jesus and helping them serve Jesus together as a family.

In her spare time, Charlotte’s life is filled with spending time with her husband, Ken, and their 3 children, Scot, Julena, and Dylan. Together they love road trips and new adventures and have a goal to eat at every Mexican restaurant in the KC metro area.
